Irrational Man

VERSIONE ORIGINALE CON SOTTOTITOLI IN ITALIANO
Di Woody Allen
Con Emma Stone, Joaquin Phoenix, Parker Posey, Jamie Blackley, Meredith Hagner
Thriller, durata 96 min. – USA

ORIGINAL VERSION WITH ITALIAN SUBTITLES
The legendary director turn in one of his better efforts of recent years with a riff on Dostoevsky’s Crime and Punishment and gets it right with charming yet horrifying black comedy.
Call it the scattergun effect. When you release as many films as Woody Allen – six in the past five years – sometimes you’re bound to get it right.
This philosophically minded black comedy revisits some of the director’s favourite themes but, familiarity aside, it manages to amuse and entertain.
Taking up a post at a New England college, a boozy philosophy lecturer (Joaquin Phoenix) attempts to banish his boredom by committing the perfect murder.
Alas, it’s not long before the two women he’s separately bedding – Emma Stone’s student and a chemistry lecturer (Parker Posey) – begin to suspect him of the crime.
Much like Allen’s Crimes And Misdemeanours (1989) and Match Point (2005), this is Woody riffing off Dostoevsky’s classic novel Crime And Punishment.
The result is charming, yet just a little horrifying.
